Lakeside at North Haledon and Four Seasons at Great Notch

MTA has provided rock slope engineering, design and construction monitoring for the Lakeside at North Haledon and Four Seasons at Great Notch residential developments constructed by K. Hovnanian Companies. The residential developments were sited within former trap rock quarries, with quarry walls ranging from 40 to 120 feet in height. The projects required rock slope remediation measures as part of the site design to address potential hazards from falling rock. Remedial treatment included design and construction of rock fall catchment ditches, design of protective netting, trim blasting of overhanging portions of the rock slope, scaling of loose rock and design of bolting to stabilize portions of the former quarry slopes.

Carbonate Rock Investigation

MTA has performed numerous geologic investigations throughout the carbonate rock regions of western New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania including recent work for a 100 unit residential subdivision for Orleans Home Builders, in Clinton Township, New Jersey. The site is located at the edge of the Spruce Run Reservoir and is underlain by sinkhole-prone carbonate rock, and is bisected by a grout curtain for the reservoir. Extensive explorations were performed to conform with the Clinton Township Carbonate Rock Ordinance and identified portions of the site which were at a higher risk of sinkhole formation. A grouting and dynamic compaction program was implemented to address the higher risk building locations and roadways. Remediation procedures were also developed during construction for isolated sinkholes at other locations. Rock slope analyses were performed to demonstrate the stability of the proposed cut slopes adjacent to the entrance roadway.
