Harmon Meadow and Mill Creek

Minutes from Manhattan, the Hackensack Meadowlands contains some of the most valuable land in the country which is underlain by some of the most challenging soil conditions to develop. Hartz Mountain Industries, with MTA as a design partner, has transformed the area from swamp into a state-of-the-art office, retail and residential complex.

Soil conditions include historic fill, compressible organic soils and soft glacial lake sediments.

Building solutions have included end-bearing piles, low-capacity friction piles, and ground improvement via surcharging.

Newark Skyline

MTA has been intimately involved in the development of the Newark, New Jersey skyline, having completed geotechnical-engineering studies for the 10 to 30 story Gateway III, IV and V buildings, the Seton Hall Law School, the Newark Legal and Communications Center, the Hartz Mountain Raymond Boulevard Complex and the Newark Bears Baseball Stadium. Foundation solutions have included spread footings, mat foundations, augered cast-in-place piles, driven timber and driven pipe piles. Underpinning of existing structures and designing around an 11 foot diameter sewer tunnel were required as part of work in an urban environment.
