Orange Plaza Shopping Center Redevelopment

MTA has provided comprehensive geotechnical engineering and construction monitoring services for the redevelopment of the Orange Plaza Shopping Center by National Realty & Development Corp. The 900,000 square foot shopping center contains a Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Home Depot and numerous other retailers.

As part of the design of the two level main building, a 27 foot high interior retaining wall was designed with tie-down anchors to allow the wall to be backfilled before completion of the structure, saving substantial dollars as well as weeks in the construction schedule.

Bog Meadow Dam Design
Bog Meadow Dam Design by Melick-Tully and Associates, P.C.

MTA performed a detailed subsurface investigation, prepared design drawings and provided construction monitoring for the ± 30 foot high earth dam.

The existing Town of Highlands earth dam was in disrepair and it was determined that constructing a new earth dam downstream of the existing embankment would be more economical and provide more storage capacity for the Town than trying to rehabilitate the existing embankment. The steeply sloping rock surface and canyon side wall provided design and construction challenges.
