MTA has provided geotechnical evaluation, design and construction monitoring services to
assist AMB Property Corporation in redevelopment of the former PJP Landfill site which was the
subject of extensive remediation and interim closure activities under the direction of the U.S.
EPA and NJDEP in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Redevelopment of the former landfill site
is being done in partnership with State and Federal regulatory agencies, and incorporates
extensive engineering and environmental controls. The 878,000 square foot warehouse will
be supported by conventional spread foundations after an innovative ground improvement
program that includes deep dynamic compaction and installation of Controlled Modulus
Columns (CMCs). Deep dynamic compaction and surcharging will be employed for
support of the site improvements. MTA Project Manager Stan Sedwick, P.E. is directing the
construction monitoring program that includes settlement plates, piezometers and magnetic
extensometers. MTA is working closely with the CMC design-build contractor (DGI-Menard) in
evaluating the ground improvement program.
