MTA logged over 450 test pits and performed over 1,000 laboratory permeability tests within a nine
week time frame as part of a fast track stormwater investigation required for design and approval of a
50 mile long widening of the Garden State Parkway between exits 30 to 80. The project will include
construction of over 125 stormwater infiltration swales/trenches that will be established in
interlayered soils conditions. The project fell within the Pinelands jurisdiction and required that MTA
work closely with the design engineer, T&M Associates, and Pinelands reviewers to assure adherence
to the project design requirements, and the Pinelands stormwater testing and soils evaluation
procedures.
The project was in the planning phase for many years and prior stormwater investigations and testing
had been deemed insufficient to obtain the necessary Pinelands approvals. MTA, under the direction
of Project Manager Lisa Devos, utilized four teams in the field and both of our New Jersey soil testing
laboratories to meet the critical time demands of the project. Our work also included review of the
proposed conceptual stormwater trench designs and development of suggested construction
monitoring methods to develop an acceptable infiltrative surface.
MTA's expertise in the current stormwater regulations and familiarity with proposed future testing
requirements being considered by the NJDEP can help expedite your next project. Contact Lisa Devos
or Bob Schwankert for information.
